Tiny Chefs, Big Flavors: Beavers Take Over the Kitchen!
There’s something truly special about the organised chaos of a group of Beaver Scouts on a mission. And this week, their mission was delicious: making pizza! Forget the usual crafts and outdoor adventures for a moment; our lodge was transformed into a bustling pizzeria, filled with the delightful aromas of tomato sauce, melting cheese, and a healthy dose of pure excitement.
The anticipation started even before the aprons went on. We talked about all the different ingredients, where they come from, and how they combine to make something so tasty. From the squishy dough to the vibrant toppings, every element was a new discovery for some of our youngest Scouts.
Then came the main event. Each Beaver Scout got their very own base, a blank canvas for their culinary masterpiece. First up: spreading the tomato sauce. This, as you can imagine, was an exercise in controlled messiness! Some opted for a perfect circle, while others created abstract art with their ladles. Every smear was done with immense concentration, tiny tongues poking out in deep focus.
Next, the cheese! Oh, the joy of sprinkling grated cheese. There were handfuls, pinches, and even a few "snowstorms" of cheddar and mozzarella. The more cheese, the better, seemed to be the universal motto.
And then, the toppings! This is where personalities truly shone. We had the classics: pepperoni circles and mushroom slices. But then came the innovators: Beavers who meticulously arranged sweetcorn into patterns, those who piled on an impressive mountain of peppers, and even a brave soul who tried a rather experimental combination of everything available. There was a lot of sharing, a lot of "Can I have some of that?" and a healthy dose of debate over the ideal topping distribution.
